(1787-1788)
No26 Isabel Dunbar at 42.
In case of this patient see an evident cause of disease. Discharge viz of considerable number of ascarides from rectum. Can be no doubt that to this many of symptoms to be attributed. And even not improbable that may be cause of all of them Of existence of [thus] a distressing itchy sensation at anus a very common nay almost constant symptom. And may as readily conceive peculiar pain of which complained to proceed from this as from any other cause Headache well known to proceed from great variety of causes. Among others frequent consequence of [impression] made upon stomach & intestines And when consider that in this case pains from inferior part of intestinal canal shoot up even to stomach not improbable that impression from worms may even be cause of headache. Thus then on removal of ascarides reason to expect removal of all symptoms. And is with this intention that have had recourse to injection of lime water. Which of all articles have employed in own practice am inclined to consider as best. With this have combined use of aromatic mixture as means of counteracting pain in intestines. But of practice reserve observations to a future occasion.
