No21. Isabel Angus. at 60.
In case of this patient a distinctly marked instance of Anasarca. And here little doubt that to water effused in cellular membrane all other symptoms to be attributed. For to water may I think chiefly attribute both cough & dyspnoea. These symptoms indeed we are told preceded obvious swelling for some time But from this would only infer that effusion in cellular membrane of lungs prior to other parts. Must however admit that copious viscid expectoration shows a certain degree of catarrh. And cold cause to which affection of present patient ascribed well known to be a powerful cause of both In present instance disease neither of long standing nor to high degree. May therefore hope for removal. But occurs in a female far advanced in life. Hence great danger of return. And not surprised if in end fatal. Is here intention to attempt discharge of water by urinary passage. And for this purpose after some [time] of Cream of Tartar have now conjoined with it Digitalis If by these means evacuates shall superadd tonics. Particularly Bark & Chalybeate. For conjunction of these or at least early use a great improved in modern practice. But of this reserve observations till again speak of case.
