    DEP/DUA/1/42/19 (Normalised version)

    James Miller

    (1787-1788)

    No19. James Miller at 28.

Disease of this patient somewhat of doubtful nature.

And cannot from anything that have yet seen or heard form decided opinion with respect to it.

Am however inclined to consider it as being an irregular or rather an anomalous intermittent.

For if entirely an example of that affection consists merely, in cold fits.

And while these of uncommon length disease also of uncommon durability having already subsisted for space of several months.

From these circumstances am inclined to view it, as not partaking more of nature of intermittent, than of general tribe of nervous affections.

A term under which must be allowed that Physicians often cloak their ignorance.

In this state cannot be supposed that can say anything positive as to prognosis.

But nothing at least in appearance [alarming]

And gives at least better chance of natural conclusion that of late even of itself observed to decline.

Am hopeful therefore that if [cannot] produce artificial may at least aid natural termination.

And is with this intention, that after [erupted] stomach by emetics have [directed] mixture of Peruvian Bark & Valerian.

But since these remedies ordered has been subjected to new & accidental affection Otalgia.

For this have directed mixture of Camphor Oil & Tincture Thebaic.

But of practice reserve observations till afterwards
