Andrew Greig
(1786-1787)
No23 Andrew Greig at [80]
A distinctly marked instance of Paralysis. Ascribed & probably with justice to conjoined action of cold & wet. At least to these so frequently [succeeding] as to give strong presumption of [connection] as cause & effect. An affection well known very obstinate even in slightest instances. Here however to such extent & of such standing as to give little hopes of recovery. Symptoms indeed somewhat [better] than once were But no alteration now for three years. And I own hopes of being serviceable to him very faint. If any remedy beneficial, may I think expect advantage from Electricity. To this therefore is intention to give full & fair trial. And if succeeds will be not a little in favour of the medicine. As from weather & other circumstances cannot answer for regular exhibition have conjoined it with Camphor. Of which also, have I own good opinion. And which in conjunction with Electricity intend also to push to some extent. If these fail shall be disposed providing can procure it, to give trial to the Arnica Montana. An article of which I own I have for my own part no experience. But which so far celebrated as to deserve trial.
