    DEP/DUA/1/38/17 (Normalised version)

    Kath Hutton

    (1785-1786)

    18. Kath Hutton a female in 26th year, has now for long time been subjected to severe & obstinate diarrhoea.

And whatever may have been case at first not improbable that has now induced such a state of alimentary canal, that all attempts to recovery without affect.

At same time by no means such evidence of any local affection as to lead us to despair of recovery.

And hope that under [cause] symptoms if not removed may at least be alleviated.

This I am endeavouring to accomplish by attempting to give temporary ease by opium

And to secure advantage by Succus Japonica.

Which however, in this case, am employing in substance, & as combined with Pulveris Cretacea for reasons to be afterwards assigned.
