Mary Sprent
(1785-1786)
November 26th
Since our last lecture [these] new cases inserted in Register1. 11 In that of Mary Sprent a girl in 19th year of age, have the common symptoms arising from want of regular menstrual discharge. And that evacuation has with her now been stopped of six months. These symptoms however though now increased had preceded obstruction for a considerable time. Hence doubtful how far Amenorrhea here idiopathic. But of this afterwards speak at more length. Here sufficient to observe that restoration of menstrual discharge unquestionably of consequence. Am accordingly attempting restoration by use of Rubia Tinctorum or Madder A remedy to which although has often failed in my hands am I own disposed to give farther trial. And if this fails have thoughts of trying Tincture of Cantharides with Aromatic & Chalybeate.
Explanatory notes:1) References are made throughout the case notes to a dispensary patient register. However, no evidence has been found that this register survives.
