    James Harris

    1784

    No35 February 27th 1784

James Harris at 40, yesterday about one o’Clock he was affected with nausea soon followed by a severe coldness which continued without preceding trembling for an hour & a half. To this a burning heat succeeded which was relieved at nine this morning by an universal & profuse sweat.

But it soon disappeared. Pulse 80 & small. Head & back very painful. Appetite bad. Belly costive

His first paroxysm was on Sunday the 14th instance, & they have since recurred every second day. But the succeeding interval is always shorter than the [preceding]. He has taken two vomits of Ipecacuanha. One of these he took at the commencement of a paroxysm & it had the effect of shortening the cold fit, without disturbing either of the following stages.

He had however no fit on Thursday but was attacked with a paroxysm yesterday about ten o’Clock. He thinks it was slighter than formerly. In other respects also he is much relieved.
