    DEP/DUA/1/31/39 (Normalised version)

    Janet Blair

    (1782-1783)

    1) that viz of Janet Blair do not reckon it necessary to read.

For could hardly be considered as having ever been subject of practice here

For after first prescription has never given any farther attendance here.

May only remark that though case principally distinguished by distressing vomiting yet appeared to me to be chiefly of hysterical kind.

This indicated by headache, dyspnoea & globus hysteria.

Before however directing any practice with a view to cure of hysteria, seemed first necessary to allay vomiting.

And with this intention had recourse to Laudanum.

To this the rather led as had before employed it in similar circumstances with great advantage.

But since this medicine prescribed as already observed have seen nothing of her

1)References are made throughout the case notes to a dispensary patient register. However, no evidence has been found that this register survives.
