About five years since his foot was run over by a cart wheel, for a year after which it continued only swelled and not painful. But soon after it inflamed & suppurated & since that it has remained a running sore.

He has long been a patient in the Infirmary1 which he left about eight days ago, and was ordered to Leith for the bathing in the sea, and drinking sea water. But he thinks his foot has been rather worse since that time. When in the Infirmary he had a poultice & took the bark thrice a day.
