Helen Donaldson at 66
May 8th 1782. Has a scabby eruption on her left knee, on the [illegible] of both legs & on the inside of both her wrists. The eruption came out with considerable itching & in the form of small reddish pimples which have broken & discharged a thinnish matter. Her ankles swell but do not pit on pressure & both her legs are considerably red & inflamed & feel sensibly hot to the touch. She has also some difficulty of breathing, but this affection has been considerably relieved since the [eruption] of her legs commenced which was since the beginning of the new year. The eruption is very painful & troublesome especially on her legs. That on her wrists seems to have formed a pretty dry scab. Pulse quicker than natural, strong & full. Appetite bad & the very sight of meat frequently produces nausea. Belly rather bound. Skin somewhat hot. Has slight soreness on the roof of her mouth & her complaints are attended with some thirst. Tongue whitish She has formerly been a patient at the Dispensary for the affection of [breathing] & has used different medicines with temporary relief. May 10th Capt Mist Vitriol ℥i ex Ag. Cyath. bis indies nec non [habit] Ol. Camph. ℥i. [inung] [paux] part. appr. dolent. 17. Has taken the Mist. Vitriol without any obvious affect. The eruption on her legs continues much as before. Belly very bound Cont. Mist. Vitriol & Ol Camph u. a. nec non Rx. Pulv. Crem Tart. Flor Sulph aa ℥I. Syr. Simp. g. [r.] f. Elect. cap. coch. parv. om. m. 24 The electuary has kept her belly gently open she has no inconvenience from the mixture Eruption much as before Cont. Med.
