    Betty Mill

    (1781-1782)

    Betty Mill.

Had no opportunity of seeing any of fits to which this patient subjected.

But from description given us appears to be very distinctly marked instance of Chorea.

And hardly perhaps singular in any particular, except regularity with which fits, attacked her.

Began treatment by trial of Cuprum Ammoniala

But from youth of patient as well as some affection of stomach necessary to begin with very small dose

Accordingly in place of Pill Caeruleae directed in form of powder each containing only quarter grain.

But even to this extent excited both sickness & severe vomiting.

Could not therefore expect any good effect of [compl].

And accordingly after continued for a week was as violent as before.

To this therefore substituted Calamine of Zinc

And that might have best chance of sitting easily on stomach employed it in form of pills.

From time that began use, fits we were informed entirely ceased

And accordingly at 2d report free from them for near eight days.

In this situation to secure advantage obtained directed continuation

But since that have heard nothing farther of patient.

Am however inclined to hope [that] this has proceeded from having no [farther] occasion for assistance.
