(1781-1782)
John Robinson.
Case of this patient had little doubt in considering as an instance of Phthisis And before came under our care had made very considerable progress. Considered expectoration, as then purulent & was evident with mixture of blood. And pulse seldom under 100, while strength very much exhausted. Here viewed Phthisis as being of tuberculous kind. And although very little hopes of recovery yet thought case might afford opportunity for trial of Cicuta. With this view directed powder of Cicuta to be taken in Mucilage Mixture. As from this hoped that might at same time obtain some mitigation of cough. On this course continued for some weeks And apparently with some relief. At least expectoration without any fresh mixture of blood. But as often happens in Phthisis symptoms soon again aggravated. And in no long time became [unable] of giving farther attendance. After that visited him several times, at fathers house. And directed several practices with view however merely of obviating symptoms. Particularly vomiting & colliquative looseness which became very distressing to him. But though these product of some temporary ease, yet no influence in stopping progress of disorder. And has now fallen victim to it.
