Has been but for very short time subject of practice here. Have not therefore had opportunity of deriving any information from it which can settle opinion as to nature of disease. And from history as introduced into our register1 many different suppositions might be entertained with regard to it. Upon whole consider affection as [curious] & well deserving attention. From late period however of course at which occurred, could not expect to see much of it. Yet one of conjectures, which was disposed to entertain was that affection might be entirely consequence of worms in alimentary canal. And was with this view that ordered a mercurial & cathartic. From which hoped that might at least determine whether worms present or not. If any discharge, reason to hope that cure might at length be affected by it. But otherwise, expected no benefit from use of it. Contrary however to expectation, since mercury taken, although no worms discharged, has had no return of it. Now therefore in still greater [doubt] than before. In this situation have transferred her, on account of termination of course, to the Dispensary where such of you as incline are entitled, from fee already paid, to attend till beginning of November.
Explanatory notes:1) References are made throughout the case notes to a dispensary patient register. However, no evidence has been found that this register survives.
