    Ann Hossack

    (1779-1780)

When formerly spoke of case of Ann Hossack was under very great difficulty with respect to many particulars.

Of these however some at [least] now removed.

And with regard to others much less room for doubt.

Now appears that obstruction of menstrual discharge effect of pregnancy.

This formerly mentioned as probable supposition.

At same time however, pointed it out also, as what might proceed from Phthisis

And what with others, tended to corroborate supposition of that affection.

But although now appears that was really from different cause yet conjecture as to existence of Phthisis rendered at least more probable.

And although attempts to alleviate not without affects, yet have evidently made no progress, as to cure of affection.

Nor do I think that in present [situation] of patient, any measures could with propriety be tried for that purpose.

Am therefore still more than ever inclined to former prognosis.

Reckon it by much most probable that though patient may hang out during pregnancy yet that soon after delivery will fall victim to the affection.
