    DEP/DUA/1/21/22 (Normalised version)

    Janet Finlay

    (1779-1780)

Case of Janet Finlay, last patient in our list, might afford room for many observations.

Particularly with respect to relief from complaints occurring during states of pregnancy & nursing.

Without entering into these however can now only observe that affection [manner] of the Hysterical kind.

And after continuation for eleven years cannot reasonably hope that by artificial means will admit of speedy termination.

Am however inclined to think that something may be looked for strengthening tone of system.

    From removing tendency to spasm

    And from obviating urgent symptoms

Is with these intentions that have here had recourse to medicines employed.

With view to two first used the Zinc combined with Valerian.

And with last, as means of obviating costiveness after finding Pill Aloetic ineffective had to recourse to Pill ex Colocynth.

How far shall be found to answer objectives in view can be determined only by trial for proper length of time.

And will as well as other patients be now transferred back to Dispensary where [those] as inclined are entitled to attend to practice till beginning of Winter session.
