    Alexander Lauder

    (1779-1780)

    Alexander Lauder.

Case of this patient exhibits an example of a paralytic affection.

Neither uncommon in symptoms nor in state in which have made much progress.

Although therefore of two years duration still consider them as being within what may be called period of artificial cure.

But although this the case am far from looking upon it as an instance in which can entertain sanguine hopes of recovery

Cure in no instances of Paralysis even the slightest to be absolutely depended upon.

Yet in others where symptoms much worse will often be successfully effected.

In case before us, since patient came under our care has been [constantly] on use of electricity

Am acquainted with no mode of cure from which more essential service has been obtained.

And if present patient gives proper attendance shall wish to give it full & fair trial.
