    Peggy Hog

    1790

    No32. March 1st 1790

Peggy Hog at 17 is frequently affected with fits recurring at irregular intervals & of uncertain duration, but rarely continuing above a few minutes. During the fits she seems to be insensible & the muscles of her legs & arms suffer involuntary contractions. The fits are sometimes preceded by the sensation of a ball rising from her stomach which impedes deglutition & respiration. She is also affected with severe hoarseness attended with some degree of dyspnoea.

Pulse 76, Belly & Menses regular.

She was first affected with the hoarsness about two months ago. And it was then attended with some difficulty of deglutition. Her fits were first observed after these symptoms had continued for a few weeks.

She has been blooded three times since the commencement of her complaints & has taken some pills & other medicines, but without any perceptible benefit.
