In this case as well as in that of Robt Miln, a dist. markd inst of Haemoptysis. And here with circum still more unfav than in former. For ground even to appreh, that Phthis had already in some degr taken place. At least of this, reason to be appreh. from loss of strength & app of pat. For while compl of great weakness, had very much that appear of [illegible] circum red viz in cheek, which so comm with hectic fever And at same time, though no hot or cold fits, yet pulse often to 100 in min. Appreh also somewhat encr from age of pat. For at 22d year was still in what calld consumpt period. So denom from freq of affect at that time. But still more ground for alarm from long contin of cough prior to occurr of bloody expect. As indic that diseased condit of lungs, from which prob, cough here alone capab of inducPhthisHaemopt, had been of consid stand. From all these partic, my opin I confess was, that in this case should soon probab. have dist. markd Phth. And that in no long time would have fatal termin. In this however, as well as in former case, fears also agreeab. disap. For patient at least for pres, has had app. a compl. recov. Must however add, that still cannot help entert very great susp as to soundness of lungs. And should by no means be surp. at his having soon again, a return of his affect. And from every return of Haemop danger of Phthis is und. encr. But for pres at least, whether as conseq of remed empl, or not, affect has certainly had a turn for the better. Here as in case of Miln, remed to which had recourse, was powder comp of G. Tragac. Starch, & Sugar. To this, as formerly took occas more fully to state, had recourse on auth of Dr Odier of Genev. And although at a loss with resp. to prin on which could be supp. to operate, yet wishd to determn infl by observ & exper. For must confess, that cannot adopt opin of those, who imag that haem stopt by agglut, as they have been calld. That is artic giving greater [visid] to mass of circul. fluids. This some have supp, to be partic the effect, of all mucag & [amylae] matters. But though these, may shew demul affect, as collectd at excret, yet no reason to believe, that prod change in mass of blood. And even supp such to occur, still less reason to think, that by agglut power, would stop bleeding vessels. If therefore has good effect must I think be exp. on other prin. And whether has or not, to be determ by exper. alone. Here however, must be allowed that many opp for decept. ForcoughHaemopt stoping from other causes, may be unjustly attrib to this. Cannot therefore, by any means, rely on one, or even few trials. But is only by freq & gener obs, that a certain concl. can be drawn And pres inst also as well as former, at least somewhat in fav of the med. Haemopt did not indeed imm stop after powders begun. And when was obs. to be dimin, imag that this might be as much effect, of some sickness, which then took place, as of any other circ. But afterw found, that even within sickness, cont free from return. And that too, notwith sever of cough at time. While severe cough contin howevr, were const. exp to danger of renew. For mitig of this therefore, [superad] to powder, the use of some Pil. Theb. And under those; for sever weeks contin so well, that consid fartherattendempl. as unness. Had now also very much regaind strength. From which [appreh] of Phth at least for pres very much remov. Still however wishd, that pat had cont attend for some time. And with this intern directed for him the use of stomach pill. As while might tend to restor of strength, & app, could at least have no bad effect. But since that, pat has never again attended at this place. This however, in all prob, solely conseq of finding that has no farther occas for assist. For may be seen daily in streets following occup of Hawker. And as already obs. this case as well as that of Miln, somewhat in fav of G. Tragacanth.
