    Isabel Campbell

    (1790)

    No.24. Isabel Campbell at 40.

Formerly pron case of this pat to be exampl of Leucorh.

And although in some inst dist between Leucorrh & Gonnor. very diff yet that not always case.

And here pointed out various [part] such for ex as conn with menst disch length of time for which has cont.

Cause from which origin &e, in my opin suff to remove every doubt.

Since pat came under care no circum has occurd to lead in any degree to change opin.

Can hardly however say same with respect to prognos.

For then concl. that should find it a very obst. affect.

And indeed appreh. that primary thing we could do pat would receive no matter benef.

Or at least, although tempor relief might sometimes be obt. that would yet return upon each menst with fresh viol.

During course of pat attend howev consid change for better took place.

This however I must own am inclind to consid as mere effect of some change spont taking place in habit than of any med here empl.

For in pract meas here [purs.] hardly intended with any other view than that of obv. sympt.

And if this effect really from use is I imag. ultimat that could with prop. ascribe to them.

Began by directing for this pat. mixt of bitter & aromat tinct with prop of mint water.

This I need hardly observe was chiefly intended as a stomach med.

Partic with view to restore imp appetite.

And to counteract, what often arise from state of stom. fits of palpit & even of fainting to which freq. subj.

From time that this mixt begun sickness at stom much relievd.

And at same time disch from vagina also much dimin.

Whether therefore both these effect of med or not, this change for better at least suff. inducem to contin.

But from some accid was for few days omitted.

During that period stom ailm returned with former viol.

But disch from vagina suffered still farther dimin.

A circum giving reason to pres. that while relief of stom ailm to be ascribd to mixt. dimin of Leucorrh had arisen from some other cause.

Still however appreh of return at succeed menst.

But till this past resolvd to cont with use of mixt alone.

This howevr proved not to be the case.

For at next period menses returnd in rather scanty state.

And neither preceded nor followd by any Leucorrhoea.

In this situat thought it both unnecss & improp to have recourse to any other pract.

And although afterw some slight return, ascribed to cold & fatigue in washing, yet persisted in [illegible]

And that nothing father necess. may with confid be concl. from Leucorh at succeeding report having entirely ceased.

Though free from this affect [howev] was a good deal distress in other respects.

And partic subj to freq yawing & sometime even to fainting fits.

Consid these as arising from state of stom, added to mixt a small quant of Vitriol. acid.

But since that have neither seen nor heard any thing of patient.

Am however inclind to conj that attend has ceased from having no farther occas for assist.

And as already obs. consider recover as not affect of any med which we empl. but of some chang taking place in syst. itself.
