    Agnes Henderson

    1789

    No10th Novr 19th. 1789

Agnes Henderson at 2, is affected almost every day, with fits of laborious breathing attended with a peculiar wheezing, resembling the noise, which occurs in Croup. These fits of dyspnoea do not attack her at any fixed time, but in general begin before eleven o’Clock in the forenoon & continue for the greatest part of the day. She sleeps however tolerably quietly, during the night, & her respiration is then perfectly free & easy. During the fits, she is frequently affected with cough & has a constant sense of languor & uneasiness.

Pulse quick, Belly costive, appetite bad, with great thirst.

This affection began about two months ago under the form of hoarseness & other symptoms from cold.

Upon these symptoms, the present fits of difficult breathing superveend, about a month ago, & have continued to attack her almost daily, ever since.

Since this affection began the child has been repeatedly blistered & bled without any apparent benefit & she has also used syrups of different kinds, cream of Tartar & various other medicines with no better effect.
