    No5. Novr 3d 1789.

    John Sutherland at 40 a postillion complains of severe pains in different parts of his body, but particularly in his head & breast.

    They are attended with cough dyspnoea & the expectoration of a thick white mucus, which comes up with difficulty. He sleep very ill from the severity of the pain in his head. There is often a moisture on his skin during the night, & he thinks that then his pains are in general most intense

    Pulse about 70 Belly bound, other functions natural.

    About the middle of September last, the trunk of his body was crushd between a chaise & a boat

    The left side continued sore for a considerable time & was succeeded by the pains of his breast & head, which he supposes to be the consequences of the bruise.

    He has used no remedies.

    Cap. Pulv. Guaiac. comp. coch. [harv.] bis indies; nec non sumat Pil. Theb. gr X. om. n. h. [somm]

    Novr 14th

    Has continued his medicines without any obvious operation. His cough & dyspnoea are much diminishd & his pains considerably relievd, but he is still at times affected with severe headach & has of late been distressd with inflammation in his Eyes.

    Cont. Med. u. a & hab. Solut Saturn ℥ ii. [pro] colyr.

    Has continued his medicines regularly, but the inflammation of his eyes is nothing diminishd from the use of the Saturnine solution & he sleeps very ill during the night, from the headach which continues severe notwithstanding the use of the pills. All his other symptoms, however are now removed. Appetite good, Pulse natural, Belly regular

    Cont. Med. u a. Ap. vesic inter scap. & postea. f. fontic [ope] Ungt Epispast.

    There was a free discharge from the blister, & his headach was for some days very easy. But the blistered part was completely heald up on Thursday; & last night he had a very severe return of the headach. He complains also of much pain in both arms. The affection of his eyes is now almost entirely gone. Interm. Solut Saturn Cont. alia Med. Repetat vesic inter scap & postea f. fontic ope Ungt. Epispast. [at] antea.

    Decr 4th

    There was a free discharge from the second blister which still continues open, & he is now entirely free from his headach & the othr symptoms.

    Let him be dismissd.
