    Martha Nixon

    1789

    No3 Novr 3d. 1789

Martha Nixon at 56 is affected with severe cough & considerable dyspnoea attended with copious expectoration of viscid mucus, by which the other symptoms are somewhat relievd. She also frequently complains of an uneasy distension & pain of the alimentary canal, which however is not fixed to any particular part. This pain she attributes to flatulence as it is always alleviated by the discharge of wind, which principally takes place under the form of eructation.

Belly costive, Pulse heat & appetite natural, Menses

Her present complaints first began about three months ago, & proceeded as she thinks from exposure to cold. They were at first attended with some febrile symptoms

But after these were removed the cough & dyspnoea still continued & are now aggravated by every fresh exposure to cold, & the encreasing severity of the weather.

For several years past she has been subjected to similar complaints during the winter season.

She has used no remedies excepting a few aloetic pills which operated gently & mitigated her symptoms particularly the uneasiness from distension.
