No32. Febr 10th. 1789
David Sherrieff at 29 passes by the anus a number of joints of the [Taenia] worm which are of different sizes, but most of them are above half an inch in length & three tenths of an inch in breadth. In colour & shape they have some resemblance to the seeds of a Cucumber, they are passd without any uneasiness not only when he is at stool but upon using any exercise, & they are then discharged unmixed with any Foeces. He has at times slight pain & a sense of weight about the stomach. But in other respects he is in perfect health. The discharge of these worms began about three years ago, &duringsince that time scarce a day has elapsed without his observing some of them He has used no remedies Cap. om m. And when at stool on Wednesday he discharged a fragment of the Taenia about five feet in length which terminated in a filum. This filum however is not very fine nor is it above two inches in length. The joints at the broadest extremity are much shorter & of a browner colour than the single ones which were formerly discharged, & as they approach to the filum, they become gradually shorter, few of them [being] a tenth of an inch in length. though three or four times that breadth; so that the worm for the greatest part of its length resembles a piece of brownish tape markd with a number of cross strokes. He has taken none of the powders since the discharge of the large fragment of the Taenia. But he took the purgative on Thursday which operated briskly. No joints of the worm have been observd since the large discharge on Wednesday. Interm Med. & Rx. Tinct amar. - Aromat aa ℥iiiMcap ℥p. bis indies ex Ag. [Cyath]. 28
