    David Sherrieff

    (1789)

    David Sheriff at 29 No32.

When formerly spoke of this case offered sentim respect at consid length.

And now hardly any thing to add to what before said.

For since that have seen nothing of patient at this place.

And that in all prob. conseq. of having no farther occas for assist.

Here no doubt, that immed [cause] of disease of patient was a worm of Taenia kind.

And whethr found for the [distinct] made by most natur or not into Taenia lata or Gourd Tape worm & Taenia Cucurb or Gourd worm could be no doubt that [illegible] to [genus]

And that compl. cure alone to be effected by compl. expuls.

With this intent, which in many cases an end very diffic to accompl. directed use of Stann. pulver.

For acct of success of that remed in such cases referr you to paper by late Dr Alst. in Ednr med Ess.

Here suff to obs that repres it as in large doses as an effect remed both for tape & gourd worm.

And although has not perhaps altog answ char he gives of it yet has often succeeded.

In case of this patient directed it first to extent of ℥ii for dose.

And this was ordered to take for three success nights.

As thus however without effect directed each dose to be doubled.

And after these taken, a brisk cathart of [comp.] powder of Jallap to be used.

But effect of very first dose was disch of a fragm formerly pres here, about five foot in length & termin in filum.

Whethr was the animal comp. or not can hardly prop. [vent.] to say.

But patient himself so much conv of it, that reckoned any farth med unness.

When however, at succeeded visit he brought us worm, dir for him mixt of bitter & aromat Tinct with view of strength stom

But since that have seen nothing of him.

And in all prob. no more fragm have yet been obs.

Is indeed true that single [remn] joint capab in due time of gener. anoth worm of very great length.

And that after remov of large fragm often no app. even for sever months.

Yet not without hopes that in this case Pulv. Stan. has been means of compl. cure
