    No23. Decr. 30th. 1788.

    David Ritchie at 24 is affected with frequent severe cough & acute pain of the left breast, which sometimes shoots between his shoulders & is aggravated on coughing.

    He says that he feels also a sense of coldness in his back & legs.

    Pulse 80. Belly regular. some thirst, appetite pretty good, sleeps tolerably well, but sweats much during the night.

    His cough has been of three months continuance, but the pain of his breast & back are only of four days standing. He attributes his complaints to exposure to cold & has used no medicines.

    The blister rose well & still continues to discharge freely. The pains of his breast are much mitigated, but the cough & dyspnoea continue much as before.

    There is still a free discharge from the issue & he has continued his powders regularly. But his cough is rather augmented, & his other symptoms continue as before.

    There is still a free discharge from the issue, but the pain of his breast is rather more severe than before & his cough more frequent with copious expectoration. He is frequently affected with a sense of coldness in his back & sweatings during the night.

    Still sweats much during the night. But thinks his cough & other symptoms easier since the use of the mixture.
