    Kitty Ord

    (1788-1789)

    No26. Kitty Ord at 10.

With regard to case of this patient somewhat at loss.

Her affections however cons. at least prin if not entirely in fits.

And these either of hyster or epilep. k.

In app. of fits themselves sever. circum fav rather former suppos.

Partic sense of suffoc. [referrd] to affect of Trachea.

And inordin action of alim canal, as indic by contract of umbil to spine.

While at same time, little agitat of muscles of extrem, & no foaming at mouth.

Circum at least very common in epilep.

But notwith these partic still incl. to latter suppos.

Partic from total abolit of sense with fits accomp.

For this more than any other cir. consider, as constit & demonst essent diff between the diseases.

This opin also corrob. by fatuity rem after fits.

For in hyster recov. after parox more immed & compl.

Age also of patient in fav of Epilep.

For more a disease in early periods of life than Hyster.

Indeed latter affect very rarely occurs prev to menstr.

In so much that has derivd its name from uterus from supp. [dep.] on that organ

And well known that uterus very comm. little influ on system till menstr. comm.

Is in comm to both diseases, that fits excited by pass of mind.

But Epilep not unfreq. obs to be prod by worms, which never perhaps a cause of hyster.

And of these some presumpt in pres. inst.

For were at least disch when patien at a former period subj to fits.

And at pres freq. obs. to grind teeth & pick nose at least comm sympt of Hyster. worms.

From all these circum then consid suppos of Epilep as most prob.

At same time not altog without doubt.

And this it must be allowed should in some degree affect both, prognos & pract.

But whethr one or other well known that are in gener. obstin diseases.

At same time on suppos. of either sever circum here fav.

Partic age of patient, short duration of affect, & spont cessat on former occas.

Hence inclind to hope that may either be able to induce artif or at least to aid natur termin.

With this intent here prop to make trial of Zinc.

And that not in form of Calx, but of praecip.

Shall wish to give this fair trial before have recourse to any other med.

May however on suppos of worms partic of ascarid, have recourse to inject of lime water.

And if any app of these to other anthel. med.

But of pract reserv observ. till afterw
