Concer. case of this patient little to add to few obs. form offered. For while case turnd out to be but of little import. was also but a short time only under care. Obstr. of menst disch to which subj consid as merely sympt of state of constit at the time. And to be restord by recov of health & vigour, which when came under our care had not regaind after fev. Consid her therefore as chiefly our patient for affect of Ear. Affect here entirely conf. to one Ear viz right. This however subj. to repeated [infec] & suppurat. This as well as want of menst disch consid also as sequel of fever. While fever often oper. as cure of preceding affect. so many others also which induces. And indeed hard to say under what variety of forms these may app. Among others however inflam & suppurat of diff. parts very freq. occur. Sometimes, partic when gives rise to Scroph. these app on many diff parts & extrem diff. to cure. In other cases & these more comm. gives rise to ordin phlegm supp & healing mildly. But when affects a very delic organ of sense as Ear, at least less chance of this. Partic after repeated returns. In some inst has not only given rise to incur deaf. but has even proved fatal. For by repeated supp. struct of organ entirely destroyd. And from eros of bones, suppurat makes way into brain itself. When this however case, fatal termin not to be wonderd at. Did not therefore I own expect that speedy fav termin which has here ocurd. And must also add that this entirely operat of syst itself & in no degree effect of med here empl. When patient first app. for assist. chief distress arose from pain of ear & tinnit aurium. These after after formerly exist with great viol. had ceased on disch of supp matter from Ear. And had again returnd on disch ceasing. From this therfore reason to susp. that fresh suppur was going on. And this if could be accompl. was an obj to prev. If not was yet desir. at least to moder suppar. & to mitig pain & other urgent sympt. With this intent it was that directed for our patient a mixt of Camph oil & Theb. Tinct. In each ingred of this combin. need hardly add that have a very powerf. topic applic. Camph well known to be a [subst] which from topic action of a very [pent.] nature. And often success empl with view of [discuss] tum threat supp. Often also very useful in affect of Ear. Partic where depr. state of sensib. giving uneasy sensat as tinn aur. And under no form better app. [part] to Ear than under that of Camph oil. Here then on diff. views seemd a very prop. applic. But Camph. however active has much less influ. in allaying pain than Opium. And here the obt that end seemd at least to be a matter of import. Besides from Opium as well as Camph had reason to hope, that suppar. rather prev. than otherwise. In these expect however disapp. For notwith regul use neither any consid mitig of pain nor prev of suppurat. Or at utmost had affect only of [rend]. suppar. less consid than might otherwise have been case. But whether this effect or not in no long time, abscess formed was subj to spont. rupt. And in conseq of this, ear as may natur be supp. much relievd. For till, disch of matter distens alone a suff cause for supp. pain. But this on rupture entirely removd. Still however was subj to consid pain in diff parts of head. From this led not only to direct contin of oil, with view to prev of return of fresh suppur. but also to applic of blister. And that might more readily [secure] determin from head, [illegible] blister to be [conv] into issue. After these pract however directed saw nothing of this patient for a [cons] length of time. And then met with her only accid. Found however that from period of last purul. disch. had been entirely free from former sympt. That in short time disch ceased. But that upon this, there was not as formerly any return of pain. And that was now in every other respect in good health. Hence then markd her in our list as dismissd. And may justly considr cure as solely the effect, of operat of nature not of any pract here empl. Still however termin gives count. to idea given of nature of disease, that viz. whole a sequela of Fever.
