    Isabel Dewar

    (1788)

    No16. Isabel Dewar. at 36.

Case of this patient both of compl. & in some degree also of doubtf. nature

Is evid subj. both to stom ailm & to pect. compl.

But of these latter by much most consid.

And with regard to these matter of doubt whether catarh & phthis.

Cannot cert. be said to be distinct markd Phthis.

For neither const quickness of pulse nor regul access of hectic fever.

But Phthis well known a most insid disease.

And often subs. for consid time, with sympt even less alarm than pres.

I own therefore susp. is that shall yet find pat falling victim to that disease.

At same time even supp. it Phth seems to me of most fav. kind.

    That is Catarh. Phthis.

And on this idea though affect dang yet hopes of recov. not altog. precl.

In this modif of disease cure cheifly to be expected by prod alterat in state of separ at surf of lungs.

And by restor. natural cond to [sup] vessels from which this separ. afforded.

With these intent have had recourse to a mucil mixt. [acidul] with vitr acid.

And to mixt of powder of Cicuta & Peruv. bark.

But of these or other remed, which may here empl. reserve obs. till shall afterwards speak of case at more length.
