    Margaret Wilson

    (1788)

    No5th Margt. Wilson at

Prin compl. to which this patient subj an affect of her ear.

And accord to acct. given us has been subj to repeated inflam & supp.

This affect as well as that of [first] pat. Kath Hastie seems also to be a seq. of fever.

At least of this strong presumpt from its occuring also, during course, or on termin of fever.

And while in one an example of fever giving rise to affect of eye on other has [prod] affect of ear.

But besides this, patient subj also to anoth affect to which females always apt to pay great [illegible].

    Obstruct viz of Menstr. evac.

This we are told had not app. for two last periods.

And by patient herself ascribd to expos to cold from wet feet during flow of menses.

This it must be admitted often a cause induc it.

Evid however, that as well as affect of ear, had only [taken] place since subj to fever.

And can be no doubt that much more freq. a sympt than an idiopat affect

Hence then, here I own inclind to consider it, as conseq of that state of system, which fever left.

And that therefore to be cured by restorat of former vigour.

To be effected much more by diet & regimen than by med.

Hence then has hitherto been no obj of pract.

And am in hopes that without any med may be restord by operat of syst. itself.

Is probab. also chiefly in way of natural cure that to expect remov of affect of ear.

For both supp. & adhes inflam may justly be consid as natur process.

Have however had recourse to a mixt of Liq. Laud & Camph. Oil.

In first an artic tend to allay pain

In last one fav resolut of inflam, & & having influ in prev. return

Since that with latter intent, have had recourse to blister & issue

Of intent in these pract shall after speak more fully.

And hope may also be able to add that not used without effect.
