    Thomas Stevenson

    (1787-1788)

    No36. Thos Stevenson at 25.

On case of this patient no obvious alterat has taken place since came under care.

Then pron. an example of Cataractu vera of Sauv – Caligo Lentis of Culln

Only however in [incip.] state & unfit for operat.

From what have since seen no reason in any degree to alter opin.

And as far as change in disease has been merely that progr. which may be consid as natural course.

For remed empl. have not only done nothing in remov it, but have not even interrupt. progress.

While at same time, hardly know what can be empl., with greater [prosp] of success.

Hence hopes of recov. even less than before.

Here remed first directed, & from which indeed prin expect, Electric.

To be consid as most powerful stim which we possess.

For in conseq of actually pervad both solids & fluids, acts as powerful topic stimul, even to deep seated parts.

Has remark influ even as exert motion even in inanim matters.

This abund app. from encr. motion of fluids though capill. glass tubes.

Hence then may be consid as well suited for encr. action of capill. [lymph] absorb.

And is alone from action of these carrying off opaque matter depos. that [due] transp. can be restord.

If therefore any remed from which success to be lookd for is I think Electr.

But besides electr. directed here also anoth remedy Pil. viz of Hyosciam

To these in some degree led with view of obv. headach with which at times affected.

But still more to engage attent of patient, & to [recover] attend if electri at any time accid omitted.

If prod of this effect, has had no other.

And electric. not attend with any more matter. benef.

For notwith regul. contin, dimin of vision rather augm than otherwise.

And now I own inclind to think that only chance of recov. is operat. when disease in condit for it.

But if patient contin attend, shall still wish to persist for some time longer in electr. that may have fair trial
