    No25. Janr 1 1788

    Ann Kennoway at 56 has had a hard tumour of a considerable size in the upper part of the right mamma. There is no change of colour or affection of the skin above the tumour but she complains of a sense of burning heat in it. There is also a tumour of a smaller size in the lower part of the same mamma & one in the axilla of the same side. She is affected also with severe cough attended with but little expectoration

    Pulse about 90, low & weak Belly regular, some thirst, Appetite indifferent, & she sleeps ill in the night.

    The largest of these tumours was first perceivd about two years ago, the others have [since] superveend, & all of them have gradually encreased in size. He can assign no cause for their occurrence.

    She has used some medicines one of which she thinks was hemlock, from which she imagines she derivd some little advantage, in diminishing the uneasiness from the tumour, but it had no effect in retarding its progress.

    The pain of her breast continues much easier But she observes that it is always much aggravated when by any accident the powders are omitted. The size of the tumour is nothing encreased.

    Has continued her medicines regularly without any obvious operation

    The pain of the Mamma continues easier. But the tumour is nothing diminishd

    Her medicines have no obvious operation, but the pain of her breast continues easier though the swelling be nearly in the same state as before.

    In general feels a sense of heat in her breast, for about a quarter of an hour after the electricity, the pain continues easier & the swelling is nothing encreased.

    The augmented dose of her pills has no sensible operation. The electricity has been regularly continued. The pain of her breast is much easier & she thinks the swelling somewhat diminishd

    The swelling of the mamma is considerably diminishd; & she is much less affected with pain But she complains of severe looseness attended with considerable gripes
