    Ann McLean

    No22 Decr 18th. 1787.

    Ann McLean. at 36 is often affected with the sense of a ball, rising from her left side which extends from thence to the upper part of her oesophagus, after which a severe pain is felt through her whole head. At times she is affected with stiffness in the back part of her neck extending to the small of her back. She complains also of being often affected with nausea & sickness at stomach.

    Pulse of natural frequency. Belly regular, no thirst. Her appetite is at one time voracious, at another it is much impaird. About ten years ago her catamenia totally disappeared & continued so for upwards she saw nothing of that discharge for upwards of a year & a half. But after that it again appeard although in less quantity than before.

    Her other symptoms came on about six years ago & have continued to encrease in severity ever since. She ascribes these to the diminution of the menstrual discharge.

    She has used no medicines

    Cap. Mist. Tinct. Aromat. ℥ p ter de die.

    The mixture sits easily on her stomach, & she thinks her symptoms somewhat alleviated.

    Is now less affected with the Globus hystericus & [his] other symptoms are easier.

    Is much affectd with swelling at her stomach occurring early in the morning. But her other symptoms continue easier.
