    Isabel Angus

    No21 Decr 18th. 1787.

    Isabel Angus at 60 is affected with a considerable colourless swelling in her inferior extremities. It is most considerable in the feet & ancles, but extends above the knee. It leaves deep pits on pressure. She has likewise a severe cough accompanied with gross expectoration & great difficulty of breathing. The dyspnoea is always most severe during the night so that she is often obliged to rise from danger of suffocation.

    Pulse about 80 & regular, Belly natural, urine in small quantity, Appetite good, No thirst.

    The cough & dyspnoea are of about three months standing & the swelling of the legs & ancles superveend about five or six weeks ago. She attributes these complaints to the application of cold

    She has taken a cathartic without any sensible effect.
