Euphan Smith at 36, is much affected, with Anorexia nausea & at times vomiting accompanied with a severe pain of her back. She has also a constant acute pain of her stomach which isoftenfrequently distended. And she often feels something like a ball passing from the stomach to the oesophagus It remains there for some length of time & prevents her from swallowing any solid meat, she can then also [swalw] liquids only in small quantity She has a troublesome cough & is often distressd with great difficulty of breathing. Pulse about 96 & strong Belly regular Appetite gone, intense thirst, strength much impaird, Menses have not appeared for these four years, she attributes their obstruction to the effects of anger. Her present complaints began about two months ago, & have been more or less severe ever since. She can assign no cause for their occurrence & has used no medicines. Rx. Pulv. Cort. Peruv. Valer. Sylv. aa ℥ p.Mcap. coch parv bis indies nec non sumat. Pil. Foetid. Simp. gr V om. m. 8. Her medicines sit easily on her stomach, & she is now much less affected with the ball rising to her throat, & with the thirst. The pills have no effects in moving her belly. Cont. Med. u. a. 22. The pills have in general the effect of giving her an easy stool once in two days & she has a more free discharge of flatus. But is still much affected with wind in her stomach & depression of spirits. Cont. Med. u. a. Janr 5. Complains much at present of the sense of a ball in her throat. But in other respects is considerably easier. Cont. Med. u. a. 19 Still complains of the sense of a ball in her throat & depression of spirits; but in other respects she continues easier.
