Mary Dickson at 39, is often affected with very acute pain, in her right side begining about the false ribs & extending to her back. From thence it often strikes downward to the region of her loins & to the lower part of her belly. She is often also affected with considerable nausea, particularly after taking food. But this is immediately relievd by the discharge of flatus. These symptoms are attended with troublesome Dyspnoea & sometimes with a little cough. Pulse at present 84 & low, Belly bound, Appetite rather impaired, strength much weakned, Menses regular. These complaints began about ten weeks ago, & she attributes them, to hard work & exposure to cold. She has used a blister & some pills, but without deriving any benefit from them. Cap. Pil. Foetid cum Aloe gr V om. m. & Mixt. Tinct. Aromat ℥ p. bis indies. 22 Has a considerable discharge of wind from the pills, but is still at times much affected with pain in the abdomen. Cont. Med. u. a. 29. Appetite considerably mended & she is less affected with pain in her side, but she complains much of a sense of heat in her back. Cont. Med. u. a. Janr 12. Still complains of pain & heat in her back & she is at times affected with vertigo. But all her other symptoms are easier. Cont. Med & Hab. Bals. Anod ℥ii. illin paux. p. dol. [illegible ] 19. Is much less affected with the uneasiness in her back since the friction with the Anodyne Balsam, & she is entirely free from the vertigo. Her other symptoms also are considerably easier but she complains much of weakness & of a bound belly. Cont. Bals. Anod. Interm. alea med. & Cap.
