    Betty Culbert

    No7th Novr 13th. 1787.

    Betty Culbert at 15. complains of severe pain in her head back & right side which particularly affects her for some hours after rising & is often so severe as to render her incapable of working

    From the pain of her side she is seldom able to sit above half an hour at a time, as while she remains at rest in that posture it is much aggravated.

    Pulse about 90 low & weak

    Her appetite is very much impaird & when she takes food it is often immediately returnd by vomiting

    Her strength is much impaird, her countenance pale & she is much affected with thirst. She has never yet menstruated.

    She was first affected with these symptoms about six months ago.

    But it is only for about two months that they have given her much uneasiness, having gradually encreased in severity since their commencement.

    She knows no cause to which they can be ascribd & has used no medicines.

    The mixture sits easily on her stomach but the pills purge her severely. Symptoms much as before. But she thinks the pain of her side rather aggravated.

    Has had nothing of the looseness since the pills were omitted & the pain of her side is somewhat mitigated. But she has been affected with frequent fainting fits attended with streaching & yawning. Cont Mist cum Tinct. [illegible ] & Ungt. u. a nec non habeat Spt. Aether. [Vitr] ℥ ii. cap. g[t]. XXX ex Ag. Cyath urgente parox.

    Decr 1.

    Had one of her fainting fits on Sunday evening which she thinks was somewhat relievd by the Aether & since that she has had no return of them. All her symptoms are at present easier & she complains only of the pain of her side. Belly regular, but no appearance of the menstrual discharge.

    Has had frequent returns of the Fainting fits since the last report. She thinks they were somewhat alleviated by the Aether. She is not now affected with the pain in her side. But her other symptoms continue nearly as before.

    Has taken the powders regularly & has had no return of fits since the last report. She continues free from the pain of her side

    Continues free from any return of the fit & at present she complains only of pain in her stomach. There is no return of the menstrual discharge.
