    Ann Kennoway

    (1787-1788)

    No25. Ann Kennoway at 56

Chief disease to which this pat subj an affect of Mamma.

And can have no doubt in consid it as an ex of Cancer.

    Still indeed in [occult] state.

And has made no great progr.

For skin above neither discoloured nor corrugated.

But that has passed state of schirr evid from sense of buring heat.

Still more from affect of glands in axilla, in conseq of tumour in breast.

For no doubt that this an enlargem of lymph gland in conseq of absorpt. from mamma.

Thus app. that even more danger of affect of syst. than if marks even of much greatr disease in mamma

Of prognos after what formerly said of anoth case of Cancer alm unnecess to express. app. of danger

Hold it to be a disease which unless by timely operat will very gener. be found to be incurab.

And to this patient at pres at least not disp. to subm.

How far even operat would now succeed will not pretend to say.

Would certainly require remov. of auxillary gland as well as of tum in mamma.

And not imposs even that has already made its way still farther into system.

In such a situat then would hardly be prud to urge it much on pat. contrary to inclin.

And for us remains only to attempt cure by other means.

With this view in pres. case as well as in that last treated of mean to make trial of Bella dona.

But in order to encr. chance of recov mean at same time to empl. also Cicuta.

In which as an useful artic of Mat. Med must own have some confid.

The rathr as from activ of Belladonna cannot venture to push it suddenly to great extent.

With these med in ordr to procure rest during the night have also conj Opium.

And to avoid many diff. form this united with the Bella donna.

The dose is my intent grad to encr. as find patient can bear it.

And besides giving the Bellad in conj with Opium may perh. also add it to Cicuta.

Besides internal use could [here] also wish to try it externally.

But at this season of year doubt how far shall be able to obt. suffic. quant.

Of pract however reserve obs. till afterwards.

Shall only add, that if decid. prod of good effect in this case will be strong ex of effic in Cancer.
