    Janet McDougall

    (1787-1788)

    No16th Janet McDougall at 38.

In hist of this patients case many sympt are mentiond

Yet hardly perhaps to be consid as distinctly charact. any one disease

Or rather in pains in diff parts of body & in affect of alim canal have charact of many sever diff. disease.

Am however inclind to look upon whole as being sympt of Hyster.

An affect well known to put on very great variety of app.

In fixd pain of jaw here have I am inclind to think a sympt. analog to that pain of head descr by Sydenham under title of Clav. Hyst.

And which he consid as so strong mark of disease

Viewing disease in this light can hardly here flatter ourselves with compl. remov.

Partic when consider. that has already subsisted for upwards of fourteen years.

And that has resisted empl. of many of most powerful remed

What chiefly to be done therfore is I appreh in way of allev. [any] sympt.

    Partic affect of alim canal.

And with this view have already tried Pil. Foetid & Aromat & bitter Tinct.

Of these however as well as other remed to which may be led to have recourse reserve obser. till again come to speak of case.
