Janet Frazer. at 44 Princip part of disease consis in freq. loose stools. And to this can have no doubt in attrib all other sympt. Or at least may concl. these to arise, from that state of intest [giv] the loosness. Here may perhaps be quest whethr to be consid as ex of diarrh. or dysen Some inclin to apply latter term to every case in which there occurr. gripes, tenesm or bloody stools. Latter circum indeed not mention in hist of our pat case. But may observe that is one of those partic readily escap. observ. For often little attent paid to matter disch by stool. Hence from mere silence with resp. to it cannot inferr abs. And with this patient gripes & tenesm at least, describd as taking place to high degree. While with pulse at 90, great thirst, loss of app. & dimin of strength, cannot be said, that free from fever. But though these give diff. disease from ordin diarrh. yet still more diff. from Dysent. For this term should I think be entirely approp. to a disease, univ. dep. on pecul. contag. And in pres inst no evid that eithr receivd from contag or capab of commun contag to others. While as far as fever here occurs evid app. that not prim disease as in case of Dysent. but sympt. only. And in short no sympt. which will not often be met with in adv. or chron state of Diarrh. This then my opin with respect to disease of this pat. With regard to prognos. am I on inclind to look for fav. termin. For upon whole can be no means be consid as a fatal affect. In general this only happens, when allowed to run on so far that there occurr local affect of intest canal. Of these however may at least venture to say that no evid in pres. inst. Disease indeed may be consid as having passd period of natural cure For looseness would often app to be operat of syst. for remov of some offending cause. And this may inferr to have hap in pres inst from pain & uneasin. in alim canal preceding looseness for some length of time. But when runs on for any length of time intest acquire irrit & weak state. And have at same time a dispos to encreasd secretion. But by use of prop tonics & astring may in genr. be success. counter. By these hope that affect in pres inst may be comb. And as such have here had recour to succus japon. But of that shall after speak
