    Alexander Paterson

    1787


    No29. Janr 19. 1787.

    Alexr Paterson at 24, by trade a shoemaker, has the fore part of his hairy scalp, particularly towards the left side entirely deprived of hair & covered in part with a shining redish surface, in part with a scabby incrustation of a whitish colour. Part has an ulcerated appearance discharging a yellowish pus. He has no pain from the affected part. On the left arm about the elbow, for a considerable extent, their appears a scaly eruption like the former, without any discharge.

    On his cheek likewise there is a small inflammed tumour about the size of a pea & covered on the top with an incrustation.

    Pulse 85 & of a natural strength appetite good, belly regular, skin dry.

    The above eruption came on about four years ago. It generally disappears in the summer but returns again every winter

    He can assign no cause for it.

    The tumour on his cheek began only three days ago, under the form of a small pimple.

    27. Thinks there has been less discharge from the affected part of his head, since the application of the ointment. Has taken the powder without any obvious operation

    Febr. 3. Has no sickness from the powders but has in general two or three loose stools every day. attended with gripes. The discharge from the affected part of his head is much diminshd, & it looks better than formerly.

    17. Head continues to look much better & he is obliged to go to the Country
