Eliz. Melvile at 40, a married woman, with black hair, has been affected for three weeks, with an almost constant discharge of blood, from the vagina, but she cannot ascertain the quantity. When she passes urine, she discharges large pieces of cloated blood, which however come away, without any difficulty. This discharge began with the usual menstrual evacuation, when it appeard for the first time, after weaning a child which she had done, about twenty days before. She is also frequently affected with the sensation of a ball, rising from her abdomen, & ascending to her throat, which is immediately followed, by a discharge of flatus, often also of disagreeably tasted matter. She is principally affected in this manner, in the morning & evening but sometimes also through the course of the day. She is affected with an almost constant pain in her back, & in the lower part of her belly, & complains at times of headach & pain of her breast. She is affected also with general debility Pulse about eighty & small. Appetite impaired, great thirst, belly regular. All these symptoms have superveend, since the commencement of the bloody discharge. And she knows no cause to which they can be attributed. Rx. Spt. Vitriol. ten ℥i. Mucil. G. Arab. Ag. The bloody discharge has been very considerably encreased since she began the use of the mixture & she has discharged from the uterus three bodies each about the size of a small egg & consisting of a membrane enclosing a watery fluid. Has taken the medicines as directed, without any inconvenience But the discharge of blood by the vagina still continues & she is at times affected with the same pain which preceded the discharge of the Hydatides Cont. Med. u. a. Febr 3. The bloody discharge from the vagina is much diminishd. And no more of the round vesicular bodies formerly discharged have been observed. But she still complains much of the pain of her belly back & breast. Cont. Med. u. a. Febr 10. Is entirely free from the discharge of blood & is now nothing affected with the pain of her back & belly, but she still complains of weakness Interm Med & cap. ter de die Pulv. Cort Peruv ℥p 17. Continues free from any return of the discharge & is in other respects much easier Cont. P. C. Per. u. a. 24. Continues to recover strength & is free from other complaints Cont. Cort. u. a. March 3. The menstrual discharge returned yesterday morning but it has not at present the appearance of being excessive & there is nothing uncommon in the matter discharged Belly regular. Pulse natural Cont. Pulv. Cort Peruv. u. a. 10th Her menstrual discharge had at the last period the usual course & she is at present free from all her complaints Let her be dismissd.
