    No27. Janr 12th 1787.

    Kath. Sutherland at 23 with fair hair & eyes & of an appearance seemingly not unhealthy, complains of severe cough attended with dyspnoea & with the expectoration of a bloody matter to the extent [of] three or four ounces during the day. She is also much troubled with a fixd pain of her head & breast which are much aggravated by the severity of the cough & she is affected with pain of her left side. She complains also of great prostration of strength & through the night she sweats profusely.

    Her symptoms are much encreased by cold weather or by fatigue in walking.

    Pulse about 65 & small. Tongue clean. Belly & Menses regular appetite bad, great thirst. These symptoms commenced about twelve months ago & she attributes them to her having caugh cold. During the summer they were much mitigated. But within this forthnight they have been particularly severe, which she ascribes to a fresh attack of cold

    She always enjoyd good health before the commencement of these symptoms

    Rx. Pulv. Crem Tart.

    Sal. Nitri ℥ ii M cap coch parv. ter de die.

    Janr 20th Had some vomiting from the first doses of her powders. And the bloody expectoration continued for some days in the begining of the week. But she has seen none of it since Thursday last. Cough & pain of breast still severe. Cont. Pulv. Crem Tart. u. a. & cap. vesic p. dol pat. & postea. f. fontic one Ungt Epispast

    Janr 27. The powder sits easily on her stomach. And there is a pretty free discharge from the issue. She has had no return of the bloody expectoration

    Cough rather easier but she still complains of the pain of her breast. P.76. Belly regular.

    Cont. Pulv. Crem Tart & [Fontic] u. a.

    Febr 10 Has taken none of the powders, for eight days past, & the issue has been allowed to dry up. She has lately had a return of the Haemoptysis to a considerable extent & attended with severe cough. Cont. Pulv. u. a Repet. Vesic & [Fontic.]

    Febr 17. There has been a free discharge from the blister & issue. But she has still considerable Haemoptysis, attended with severe cough

    Cont. [Fontic] & Pulv. u. a. nec non Rx Julap. Mucil. ℥ VI Tinct. Theb. Spt Vitriol ten aa ℥I. M cap. ℥ p. ter de die.

    March 3d. Cough nothing alleviated from the use of her mixture other symptoms continue nearly as before & there is now no discharge from the issue.

    16. Has had none of the bloody expectoration, but her cough is still very severe, & she complains much of swelling at her stomach.
