Agnes Mitchell at 23 with black hair & of a healthy appearance, complains of severe headach, & of violent pain in her back & breast, with a sense of fullness in her stomach & of twisting & constriction of her bowels at times. She is also affected with slight cough & she complains of great prostration of strength. Pulse about 90 & small. Belly regular. Menses have been wanting for these six months past. Appetite impaird. Sleeps ill. The above symptoms hence continued encreasing for these six months past & she ascribes them to the absence of the menstrual discharge, as she always enjoyd good health before. She knows no cause to which the obstruction can be attributed. She has used vomits for her headach which sometimes relievd her. Cap. Pulv. Ipecac Ji pro Emet & sumat om. n. Pil. Aloet. gr V. 9. The vomit operated well & the pills keep her bely open. But her symptoms are rather aggravated & there is no appearance of the discharge. She complains much of pains in her legs. The veins at the parts most paind are in a varicose state & surrounded with an effusion of a blue colour. Cont. Pil. Aloet. u. a. & hab. indies [selus] electricos VI [ta] [ut] [fluidrum] electricum [cursam] tencat per regionam uteri. 16. Has used the electricity without any inconvenience. But there is no appearance of the menstrual discharge The pain of her legs & other symptoms continue nearly as before Cont. Pil. Aloet & [accip.] indic. ictus electric. XII
