    Mary Miller

    No 9. Novr 17th 1786

    Mary Miller at 10 with fair hair & a healthy ruddy complexion has the eye lids of both eyes affected with considerable inflammation & turgescence, attended with pain & a discharge of tears especialy in the morning & evening. At these times she complains much of headach. The great sensibility of her eyes to light together with the turgescence of the palpebrae, prevent their being properly examined.

    Her mother however says there is a sloughy scale on the cornea of both eyes, but particularly on the left. She also complains of impaird vision. Pulse 86 & natural. Skin hot appetite impaird Belly costive. Ever since she had the chin cough with which she was attackd at the age of three, she has complaind of weakness in her eyes. She however got entirely the better of this complaint upon the measles appearing three years ago. Some time after that however the weakness of the eyes again recurrd. But, tis only within this month past, that she has been troubled with the present symptom.

    She knows no cause to which they can be attributed.

    Hab. Solut. Salum. ℥ ii [pic] cloyst. & cap. [Pulv]. Jallap. comp. ℥ p. bis. in Septemane.

    Novr 25 Cont. Solut & aug. dosis Pulv. Jallap. comp. ad ℥ i. bis in 7 [manc]

    Decr 2. The inflammation of her eyes is considerably diminishd

    But her vision is still somewhat impaird.

    9 The powder taken last week excited vomiting & did not operate as a cathartic. The inflammation of her eyes was for some days, considerably encreased & was attended with much pain & intollerance of light. But these symptoms are again diminishd though she has still much flushing & heat of her face.

    16. Has in general two or three stools from the powder
