    Peter McGregor

    1786

    No1 Octr.  27th 1786

Peter McGregor at 24 by trade a mason, of middle stature, black hair, & complexion rather inclining to dark, is affected with a very considerable diminution of vision in both eyes. There is an uncommon dilation of the pupils & they [contract] but imperfectly on exposure to a strong light.

In place of the usual black colour the pupil has a slight whitish appearance but its transparency does not appear to be obviously diminishd

A considerable discharge of tears take place from his eyes especially in the mornings. He has on the right angle of the lower jaw a small soft tumour of a redish colour but without pain

He complains also of some cough.

Pulse 88 & rather small, skin rather warm, appetite tolerable & belly regular.

The affections of his eyes began about nine months ago by a dimness of sight, which since that time has been gradually encreasing. He ascribes it to his being much exposed to the heat of the sun. The tumour has been of some weeks standing, it broke three days ago & discharged a good deal of pus. It is at present [acatrizd] but it seems as if some suppuration were forming anew. With the cough he has been affected only for three days & he says he always enjoyd good health before the present symptoms appeard.

Octr 27. Cap. Pil. e Camph grV om m & vesp. nec non elic. sincill. Electricae ex oculis.
