    Helen Craw

    (1785-1786)

    Helen Craw April. 22d.

In case of this patient an evid markd inst of Epilep.

After what said therefore at last lect concern case of May Pinkerton lab under same disease need add little of pres.

Espec as have here followd same mode of cure

In every inst Epilep. an obstin disease.

And as far as my obs. goes in major of cases incur. by any remed, with which I am acq.

Have however met with diff inst where disease app. entirely disapp. during use of med.

And while reason for presum that these conduc to remov.

Hence then some encouragm at least for trial in every inst.

And may at least be said that in pres. case nothing unfav.

Fits though severe yet not very frequent.

Hence good interv. afforded for introd of means of cure.

Had not contin for any great length of time.

And even during that period, by some of remed used, an app susp had been obt.

Besides this neithr an origin, nor hered affect.

But induced late in life, prob as patient herself susp. in conseq of severe shock to syst.

From all these partic [then] [makin] due allowance for obstin of disease more ground for hope than in opp. circ

With this patient had recourse to a remed, which have often before used, with Epilep cases. Cupr. Amm.

And although in many cases, without any app. advant. yet am much deceivd if in others has not been prod of good effects.

With last patient May Pinkerton whose fits used to return every three or four weeks had an interv. of 9 weeks

And although as will obs. from [repr] of Saturd, last, has since had return of parox. yet consid it as manif ex. of influ of that remedy in that dis.

When speaking of her case, ment anoth patient, Wm Nimmo whom treated with Cupr. about two years ago.

He, from its use I obs, had then had interv from fits for 18 months.

And was hopeful might have rankd his case among lect of those cured by it.

But he returned yesterd to Disp & informed me that had severe fit on Thursday last.

Would app. therefore that his case also, cannot be reckond compl. cure

But at same time, such an interv, prob. obt from this remedy, no incons evid of effic.

And have again put him on Cuprum not without hopes of benef.

Since began use with pres pat, have also I think, had proof of its influ on her disease.

With her before use of this remed fits recurrd every four or five weeks or at utmos 6

But at last report inserted in registr, will obs. that had interv for 9.

Since that howevr has been subj to a fit.

And as far as can learn very nearly in usual mannr.

But this has occurrd only at period of ten weeks after last attack.

And therfore while shews influen of remedy on disease gives some hopes of cure from contin.

But whether that in end affected or not, both this & othr case shew influ of Cupr Amm on Epilep
