Jean McCall. at 35 married complains of considerable diarrhoea with violent gripes, flatus borborygmi & globus hystericus. She is often troubled with cardialgia after meals. She is also much affected with severe cough which very much aggravates a fixd dull pain in the breast under the sternum & she expectorates copiously a thick viscid matter of a colour somewhat blue & taste very salt. Pulse quick, small & feeble. Tongue whitish in the middle & rather redish at the edges. Thirst great, Appetite gone Menses absent for six months sweats much in the night. These complaints commenced about five months ago & she imputes them to a violent cold which she caught in July last after being debilitated by several weeds. She was then giving suck. She has used no medicines Cap. Pulv. Ipecac gr XV pro Emet & sumat Pil. Theb. gr X om. m. Janr 7th. The vomit operated gently & since she began the use of the Pills her diarrhoea is very much diminishd. But she is still distressd with the cough & pain of her breast & is affected with sweatings when in bed which are always most copious in the morning. P.96 appetite bad. Tongue clean but dry. And she thinks that her thirst is somewhat augmented since she began the pills. Interm. Pil. Theb. & Rx Pulv. Fol. Cicut. gr V P. Cort. Peruv. Ji.Mcap dos bis indies. 14. Has taken her powders regularly they sit easily on her stomach & her appetite is somewhat mended. She has had howevr some return of the looseness & the cough & pain of breast are rather aggravated. Her sweatings still continue. Cont Pulv Cicut cum Cort Peruv u. a. & sumat bis in 7ma Pulv Ipecac Ji pro Emet. 21. The vomits operated well & she has continued her powders regularly which she thinks produce some sickness at stomach but her cough is upon the whole considerably easier. Though she still observes that it distresses her very much when she lies on the left side. She has still at times returns of the looseness but she is often free from it, for twenty four hours togethr & is now very little affected with flatus, borborygmi or globus hystericus. Interm. Emet. Cont. Pulv. Cicut cum Cort. Peruv. u. a. 28 Is now rather less distressd with the looseness, but thinks the cough rather aggravated, & she cannot lie on the left side. She also observes that her strength is much diminishd & she often vomits her powders Interm. Med. & Rx. Pulv. Cicut. Cretac aa gr XMcap dos bis indies. Febr 4th cough is rather more moderate but the looseness is encreased. She complains much of weakness & is desirous of intermitting her medicines. Let her be dismissd.
