    No17. Decr 2d 1785

    Isabella Renton at 46 a married woman of a slender make, & somewhat florid complexion is distressd with severe pain about the praecordia, much aggravated with frequent & severe cough accompanied with copious gross expectoration. This often produces sickness at stomach but it is never attended with sickness retching or vomiting

    She has also considerable dyspnoea, which, as well as the cough, is most troublesome in the night, & interrupts her sleep very much. She is almost constantly distressd with headach, to a great degree. Pulse about 90 & very feeble. Thirst & tongue natural Appetite impaird

    Belly costive. Menses have been very irregular for four months past.

    These complaints commenced about three years ago; & were alway relievd in the summer. For these last three months, she has been much worse, than at any former period. This she imputes to cold & a severe stress she got at that time. She knows no cause for the disorder originally. She has used no medicines.

    Cap. Pulv. Ipecac Ji. pro Emet

    Decr. 4th The vomit operated well & has somewhat relievd the Dyspnoea, but not her other symptoms
