No11 Novr 18. 1785.
Mary Sprent at 18 unmarried, complains of frequent attacks of violent sickness, & nausea, attended with great [faitness], with flatus & eructations, tho not acid, sometimes with Cardialgia, but never with vomiting. At these times, her stomach is much distended with wind, as she thinks. She does not observe these fits of sickness, to come on at any particular time, of the day & sometimes these symptoms continue for a whole day together. She is also troubled, with almost constant headach. Pulse natural appetite bad. Belly costive Menses absent for six months past. These complaints commenced about a year ago, but the attacks are now much more violent & frequent. She imputes them to cold. She was formerly remarkably healthy. None of her relations, were subject to these complaints. She has used no medicines. Cap. Pil. Aloet gr V om. m. & Sumat. Pulv. Rad Rubiae ℥ p. bis indies. 26. The pills keep her belly gently open & she has taken the powders regularly. She thinks her stomach complaints somewhat easier But no return of Menses. Cont. Pil. & Rep. Pulv. R. Rub. ad Jii ter de die Decr 3d The menstrual evacuation appeard on Sunday last & continued in ordinary quantity for about five days. Her sickness at stomach is considerably relievd. But she still complains much of headach. Belly regular. Interm Med & Rx. Tinct. Aromat. Cort. Peruv. aa ℥i. Ag. Menth. Pip. ℥IVMcap. ℥p. ter de die.
