John Young at 20 a Taylor of a make rather feeble, & of unhealthy appearance is affected with frequent bleeding of the gums, which occurs particularly in the morning They are much swelld & have a very spongy appearance. He has also frequent aching pains in the teeth which are in general pretty sound to appearance & very firm in their sockets, but pieces of them sometimes break spontaneously. He is distressd with tinnitus aurium & is subject to headach. He is affected also with stomach complaints particularly flatus & loss of appetite. He has a severe diarrhoea, Pulse weak & not quick. Some Thirst Skin cool. These complaints began about a year ago, but were not troublesom till about six months thereafter when the gums began to put on their present appearance to swell & become spongy. For many years before this he has been subject to a very bad taste in his mouth, particularly in the morning. The affection of his bowels commenced about five months ago. His parents are healthy. He knows no cause for any of his complaints. He has been using acid of vitriol & spirit of lavender internally since September last which he thinks has been of some benefite to the affection of his gums, & also to the complaints of his bowels. Rx. Spt. Vitriol ten. ℥ i. Ag. Font. ℥IVMcap. ℥p bis indies nec non sum ter indies Pulv. Cort. Peruv. ℥p 19. Has taken the mixture & powders as directed but is still frequently affected with the haemorrhage from his gums which have nearly the same appearance as before. His appetite however is somewhat mended, his looseness gone & his stomach complaints are diminishd but he is still affected with frequent eructations. Cont. Med. u. a 26. Thinks that the bleeding from the gums has been rather less frequent since last report & his stomach complaints continue easier. But he is much affected with disagreeable eructations, particularly during the night. Cont. Med. u. a. Decr 3. The bleeding of his gums continues to be diminishd, & the gums themselves, have a less livid appearance. Appetite somewhat mended. Belly rather loose. Cont. Med. u. a. 10 Has taken his medicines regularly. But the bleeding of his gums, has been more frequent since last report & the affection of his stomach is very little diminishd Cont.
